Weekly Cleaning: Your Ultimate Checklist
Running a home can be a job in and of itself. Having a weekly cleaning checklist can simplify your life and make it more manageable- we all know household chores are not the only thing on our to-do list!
Daily Tasks
- Make Your Bed. US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven said in his 2014 Texas A&M Commencement speech, “If you want to change the world, start by making your bed.” He meant that if you make your bed as soon as you get up, you will have accomplished something for the day.
- Wash the Dishes. In the same respect, washing all the dishes at the night’s end allows you to wake up the next day and automatically feel better.
Tip: After washing the dishes, wipe down the counters and inside the sink. It will really make your kitchen sparkle!
- Put Away Clothes. And everything that comes before this! When it comes to laundry, washing, and drying are not so much the issues as putting away the clothes. Something that helped me: when my girls were in middle school, I taught them to do their laundry and gave them that responsibility. I will still do it for them if it’s in a central location, but their laundry is their problem. Don’t have those jeans you like for school? That’s on you!
- Remove/Put Away Clutter. I have to do this nightly because I have a puppy who drags out every toy she can find! I walk through the rooms and put them back in her bucket. Another big one is our island in the kitchen. Be proactive, and it won’t get too bad!
- Take Out the Trash. This may not need to be done daily but should be done as soon as required.
- Sweep High Traffic Areas. I have our SharkIQ do this.
Now that we’ve covered the daily cleaning items- let’s get into our weekly cleaning schedule.

Here’s how I schedule out my weekly cleaning list. You can change this to suit the needs of your household. Base it on what rooms you have and who all you have helping.
