Ingredients

Scale

For the Sugar Cookies

  • 1 lb. salted butter
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 lg. eggs
  • 2 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp. flavor of choice OR 4 drops of flavored oil
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour

For the Royal Icing

  • 5 tbsp. meringue powder
  • 2 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup of water
  • 23 drops of food coloring of your choice

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together in a stand mixer on medium speed until it turns white. This typically takes between 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add in eggs one at a time, then add in the flavorings.
  3. Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, until well incorporated.
  4. Move to a different bowl and cover with cling wrap. Chill for 3-4 hours (or up to 24) before using.
  5. About 30 minutes before, start making your royal icing. Combine all the royal icing ingredients in your kitchen aid and mix for seven to ten minutes with the paddle attachment, making sure to scrape down the sides occasionally to prevent crusting and dry lumps. Separate and add the color of your choice.
  6. Roll out your cookies to 1/4″ thickness. Then, cut out your desired shapes.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes. Let cool and decorate to your heart’s desire. Enjoy!
