A Detailed List of Our 5-Year Plan for Harvest Ranch
I spend the first half hour awake, lying in bed, talking to God. It helps prepare me for the day ahead. This morning, I felt the calling to share my plans for Harvest Ranch with you. Here I am an hour later, giving you a detailed list of my 5-year plan and how I will do it. Join me on this journey, if you will.
The Beginning of my 5-Year Plan:
May 7, 2025: 5 Year plan is… shocker, five years away
- There is still a TON of stuff in the shop and a few things in the yard. This is important to note because I wrote a business plan for Harvest Ranch for my Culinary Tourism class last semester (shout out to Jose Lopez for being a fantastic instructor!) and realized the bulk of my financial projections come from that being converted into a venue. It’s a double whammy- I sell the stuff to get money, then the space becomes available for conversion, making us even more financially secure. Basically, this needs to be a high priority.
- I make two or three YouTube shorts a week, and our channel growth has doubled in a year (from 80 to 161). This site… I feel like it’s even worse. I don’t even have forty blog posts on here.
- We have five raised beds still in the baby stages- I haven’t harvested much yet.
- We have two laying hens, eight ten-week-old mixes (two of which will need to be killed in the next ten weeks), three eight-week-old chicks (one male), three six-week-old chicks/pullets, and five two-week-old chicks/pullets for a total of seventeen future laying hens and two males.
- Last week we brought our first set of bees home.
- Today, we get 1,000 red wiggler worms and will start vermicomposting.
- I have been attempting to sell produce and groceries to no avail. This is extremely frustrating for me (just being honest here), and I have since stopped posting. I know I need to change my attitude about it, but I’m just not there yet.
- We have done a few craft shows, and they have also been duds. Figuring out how to sell is a high priority as well.
Six-Month Goal:
November 7, 2025: 5-year plan is 4 1/2 years away
- Have the shop completely cleaned out. If there is stuff in there, it’s for the farm.
- Starting today, two shorts and one blog post daily. Two to three long-form content videos a week.
- Long-form content: One helpful/educational, one weekly recap.
- I want to finish all of the raised beds for the front yard. Many may not get crops this year, but at least the front yard garden area is done and looks stunning in preparation for Spring 2026. In addition, I want to harvest from the beds that do have produce in them, save seeds, and propagate when possible.
- Chicken math (monthly starting in August): 34 dozen to sell (at $5/dozen, that’s $170 gross profit), four dozen for us, and 40 eggs for incubation.
- For the bees to be alive and have no pest issues (such as varroa mites or hive beetles), to consistently check the hives like a pro, and to have them overwintered by mid-to-late October. No honey this year as it’s our first year and they need it. At least, that’s the plan right now. Maybe they’ll be work horses… who knows.
- To be consistent with the worms and get compost regularly.
- Research and try out some things for selling- big focus on marketing.
Side note: The more I write this out, the more I am certain I'm going to have to get a J-O-B. The money we make from the ranch needs to go back into the ranch right now. I need a job to pay the bills so that eventually this will be sustainable on its own. Sacrifice for the future, baby.

One-Year Goal:
May 7, 2026: 5-year plan is four years away
- At this point, we will put all three doors on and have electricity in the shop.
- Continue with two shorts daily and two to three YouTube long-form videos a week.
- 365 blog posts written. This doesn’t have to be written daily, but that’s the number’s goal.
- All the raised beds will have produce, and a fence will have been built around the entire area.
- We will have 100 laying hens and 10 roosters. This is where we get waaaaay more into chicken math, folks, so bear with me (or, if it’s not your thing, move to the next point. No harm, no foul).
- We will still take out our 48 eggs to eat and the 40 to incubate a month. This will leave us with 202 dozen eggs we can sell, for a $1,010 gross profit.
- For the 40 eggs, we can account for eight that either don’t hatch or possibly have an issue. That leaves us with 32 that we can sell. The plan is to sell chicks at $5 each. This will provide an additional $160 a month.
- We have bought a second hive and possibly split my current hive. At this point, we will be about a month away from our first honey harvest!!!
- To have used all the extra compost for the garden- still going strong with the worms. Possibly consider selling worm compost as well.
- Financially: To be making around $4,000 a month from Harvest Ranch and get our name out there.
Second side note: I will also be graduating with my masters in gastronomy from Boston University around this time!!!
2 1/2 Year Goal:
November 2027: 5-year plan is now at the halfway point!
All of the things listed above plus:
- The storefront, office, and commercial kitchen will be built out, though I don’t know if we will have everything for the kitchen yet. It will just be there.
- The venue can be used for events.
- The blog and YouTube channel are all well-known and make money for the farm. Two shorts a day, but the blogging has gone down to two or three weekly posts.
- We will have twenty beehives throughout the garden area.
- We will also have a farm stand near the front of the house with all the goodies. It will be an honor system.
- Financially, the house and land will be paid off.
5-Year Plan:
May 2030: 5-year plan day has arrived!
- The commercial kitchen will be finished.
- The six rooms will be as well.
- Our venue will be booked 50% of the time.
- We will have an inground pool that is also available for use.
- We will have forty beehives.
- I will be able to quit my job if I so choose.
I know that purchasing more land will be necessary in the future as well. I’m unsure what that looks like- but are we ever sure about anything? We have to talk to God about it and put our trust in him. I can’t wait- let’s get started!
